Aquatic Centres and Swim Programs for All Ages Draw Crowds in Paris This Summer

Paris municipal aquatic centres recorded a 22 percent rise in group swim enrollments for the July session compared with the same period last year.

The increase follows the city’s decision to keep entry fees capped at 4.50 euros for residents and to add extra morning slots at 14 pools after the June school holidays began. Universal healthcare coverage already reimburses certain therapeutic swim referrals, which has encouraged doctors in the 13th and 15th arrondissements to refer more patients to structured classes.

Named venues add age-specific sessions

At the Piscine de la Butte-aux-Cailles on rue de la Butte-aux-Cailles, staff now run parent-and-baby groups every Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. and senior aqua-walking circuits on Thursdays at 11 a.m. A few kilometres west, the Centre Aquatique Paris Sud near rue du Commerce offers lane-swim clubs for adults on weekday evenings and a Saturday 10 a.m. class for children aged five to nine. Both sites accept online bookings through the Paris.fr portal, which shows remaining spaces updated each morning.

City data released on 2 July lists 18,400 active participants across all age brackets for the current quarter. The same report notes that 63 percent of new registrants live within a 15-minute cycle ride of their chosen pool, reflecting the dense network of bike lanes that connect neighbourhoods such as the Latin Quarter to the 15th arrondissement facilities.

How to join upcoming classes

Residents can visit the front desk at either pool with proof of address to complete a one-time registration form. Drop-in spaces remain available for 6 euros for non-residents, though advance booking is advised for the 8:30 a.m. adult lanes at Centre Aquatique Paris Sud. Schedules for the second half of July appear on the city website each Friday afternoon.
